Establish an escape plan and ensure that all family members know two (2) ways out in case of fire. Practice your escape plan with your family. Have a Safe meeting place outside your home or business. Example: a big tree in front of your home or even the mail box in front of your house by the street. Once your out of your home or business stay out and DO NOT go back in.
Wait for the fire department to get there.
The DO NOT'S of the fire service
DO NOT park in designated fire lanes or fire zones, fire lanes or zones are for emergency vehicles during an emergency only.
All homes should be equipped with Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors. If your CO detector activates DO NOT assume that it is a false alarm. Call 9-1-1 and wait outside for the us to arrive. DO NOT ventilate. We will check out your home or place of business and declare it safe from CO. We will also call New Jersey Natural Gas Company to help us detect if there are any problems.
DO NOT place candles near paper or other materials that can ignite easily. Candles are responsible for thousands of fires each year. Keep candles way from children and DO NOT leave unattended.
If your fire alarm activates, call the fire department immediately. DO NOT reset your fire alarm until the fire department arrives. The fire department can assist you with finding and correcting a potential problem in the alarm system that may save your life.
